There is a complex relationship between brain structure and his functions, that can be understood by observing the nervous tissue with microscope. MRI tractography is a technique useful for collecting data from the microscope images, to improve the knowledge of the nervous fibers orientation. A lot of works has been released to better know the potential of this technique. But reconstructing fibers connection remains still problematic.
This image is the result of a reaserch work conduct by a team of the Signal Processing Laboratory in Losanne, leaded by Xavier Gigandet. The researcher used a different method of comparing data sets with and without diffusion coherence contrast. The results demonstrate that is difficult to distinguish between short connections, whereas there is a strong confidence in mid and long range connections obtained by a tractography experiment.
